New Windows Can Save Energy and Money

Install New Windows To Save Energy and Money

New Windows Save EnergyIn Houston, Texas, and the surrounding area, we have recently endured one of the worst hurricanes and flooding in recent history. As a result, many homes and other properties have suffered severe damage. We, at Phillips Industries, have been pleased to be able to offer a quick response in clearing land and making necessary repairs to our neighbor’s homes that have been damaged by the storm.

One of the things we have been able to do is upgrade homes or repair storm damaged homes, by installing new windows or replacing the windows that were broken or otherwise damaged. This has provided the opportunity to use some of the modern, energy saving models and prove that new windows can save energy and money.

Energy Loss from Single Pane Windows

For many years the standard window in a home was constructed of single glass and was not very efficient in keeping heat inside. As time went on, more and more window innovations were developed and it has been proved that updated new windows can save energy and money.

Department of Energy studies have shown that energy loss from single pane windows adds up to approximately 25 percent of the cooling and heating costs for a standard home. This is important in locations such as Houston, Texas, and the surrounding area, where the temperature can have severe changes.

Double Pane Windows

In addition to saving energy costs, double-pane wood or vinyl-framed windows reduce outdoor noise. This can make a great deal of difference in homes located in noisy neighborhoods. Energy savings depend on the quality of window you choose. This may be an average or top of the line model. Both will be energy efficient but to different degrees.

Double pane windows consist of combining two sheets of glass into a single window system. These panes are separated by a spacer filled with layers of gas or air. This double glazing insures protection from heat in summer and from cold in winter.

Triple Pane Windows

Triple pane windows are built on the same premise of the double pane except that three panes of glass are formed with spacers and filled with gas or air. Naturally, this offers even more temperature control, noise control and energy savings than the double pane model.

This type of window is now required in certain zones where new construction is underway. Triple pane windows are not recommended in buildings that have little or no wall insulation.

Regardless of the type of window you choose there is no question that new windows can save energy and money by providing a better temperature with less use of your HVAC system.
